Hauraki Gulf, New Zealand

This dreamy little island looks like it could be a tropical paradise far from civilization.

Well maybe it is a tropical paradise, but it is only an hour north of Auckland by boat.

I have spent so much time out on the water, passing by this island, and can’t believe I never stepped foot on it until now.

And I picked the perfect morning for it. The sea was glassy, reflecting the island like a mirror, and the sky looked like a painting with its pink and blue hues.

The lush green plants in the centre of the island really make it stand out, and those wild-looking trees reaching up to the sky give it character.

This slice of paradise is called “Beehive Island”, fondly known as “The Beehive” by many. It is right beside Kawau Island in the Hauraki Gulf, and is an icon in the area.

I love this photo because it looks like my idea of paradise. It actually hangs on the wall of my office, to keep me relaxed while I’m at work.

The reason I started landscape photography in the first place was that I enjoyed relaxing, going on adventures and shooting beautiful places like this.
